How can one say Barak Obama is a Christian when, in his own words, denies the very basic tenet of the historic Christian faith? According to the article he says, "I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people, that there are values that transcend race or culture, that move us forward, and that there's an obligation for all of us individually as well as collectively to take responsibility to make those values lived." A belief in a higher power is a deistic statement, not a Christian one. That very statement denies any personal relationship with God. Second he says I believe there are many paths to the same place. If he calls himself a Christian, then that "place" is Heaven where God dwells and where Jesus Christ died and resurrected and ascended to get sinners like you and me there. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6) Acts 4:12 says, "Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name given among men under heaven whereby we must be saved." His belief that there is more than one path to God other than through Christ is not a Christian statement - not by any stretch of the imagination. I do not judge the man, but I do judge his words which define the man. Lance
