He can't be a Muslim, but if he is, then what?

Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Submitted by ALALI ANDREW KENOBI (United Kingdom), Feb 20, 2008 at 10:00

From the defenses of mr. obama, i think the best person to tell the kind of religion he/she practices is the person himself/herself. In this case, mr. obama had consistently reteriated that he is not a muslim. So what's the controversy all about. On the contrary, if mr. obama is a muslim, what is wrong in it? Is the US not a secular State? Is one not free to practice any religion one likes?

In conclusion, i would want the American people to choose and elect a President of their choice, while relegating religious, gender and racial matters to the background as Mr. Obama had been saying in all of his victory speeches.

Thanks for granting such an opportunity to the general public.
