Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Submitted by Jason Franklin (United Kingdom), Oct 18, 2008 at 13:54

Whether Barack Obama was is or ever was a muslim is frankly irrelevant. His experience, policies and qualifications in being a good president is what counts. Just because someone is a white christian does not mean they are going to be a good president, (eg rumsfeld, bush.) Furthermore ... why are people equating muslims or being a muslim as something negative. bad or evil. ... just because of some extremists you cannot brand 1.5 billion people as evil, the IRA were catholic terrorists, so are all catholics terrorists? Islam is an abrahamic religion just like judaism and christianity, and if ignorant firebrands bothered to educate themselves slightly they would realise that the Koran and the bible are share 70% of the same content and same prophets. that jesus is the messiah in Islam as well. You cannot appraise a persons ability based on their religion, what team they are on, where they grew up, even whether they are democrat or republican if you are voting for them solely on that basis, then you are defeating the whole point of a democracy and free elections ...
