Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?
in response to reader comment: Yes, but what about "family"?

Submitted by Deianeira (United States), Dec 29, 2007 at 15:24

Corrections to my previous comment. Elizabeth, my own saintly mother, was too vivid in my thoughts when I wrote that Obama 's mother was Elizabeth, mother of St. Mary.

The mother of St.Mary was ANNA; and Obama's mother was Stanley ANNA DUNHAM. Also, his first daughter is named Malia ANN.

Conflicting reports continue. His mother is said to have been an atheist; yet, Obama writes that she was deeply spiritual. Toward what belief we are not told? Married to two "alpha" Muslim African males, how did ANN manage NOT to become a Muslim? How did these two Muslim husbands endure or tolerate addressing her by her ever so Christian ANN? It strains common sense to think so. Is it possible Obama's father did not reject "ANN" and did not give her a more acceptably Muslim African name - "Malia" - hence the Malia Ann of Obama's first daughter?

And where is "Stanley Anna? Malia Ann? the mother buried? According to what rite, if any? And what name(s) mark her tomb?

Obama supporters cite the Lincoln connection. But as we used to learn in grade-school - on the now politically-incorrect "Mother's Day" - Lincoln said, "All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my darling mother." No such word from the little boy she never abandoned. And why do the Dunham grandparents who gave him so expensive an education, not appear, as Hillary's mother, to campaiagn for him and tell us what a "good boy" he has always been?

"MYOB" some would say, Leavee the guy alone. Yes, perhaps I have read too many 19th century novels. Nevertheless, what American wants to fear that in, say, President Obama's 2009 State of the Union Address . "President Obama annoiunces that he has experienced a profound epiphany which has shaken him to his very soul, that one day in the field arouind Camp David, he heard, just as the Prophet, the voice of ALLAH calling him back to his black African Musim roots and...."

Is all this much ado about nothing? It depends on what you mean by "Nothing". Hillary's brothers, as dishonorable as her husband? The six marriages in the history of the Rudy-Judy menage? Senator McCain's Florida in .....?

The list is, alas, almost endless. What folk wisdom best applies? Let sleeping dogs lie? Where there's smoke there's fire? Have there ever been more problematic, critical issues and so many different kind of enemies within our gates that threaten the very survival of our nation?

Most resonant are the words of the Greco-Roman writer - Aeneas the Tactician: " In times of crisis, more than the gates of the city, the people must watch and beware of their leaders who more often than not will betray them and the city for their own personal benefit.
