People know what is evil

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

The first story of the bible has a simple lesson. People know the difference between good and evil. If they didn't (as Adam & Eve didn't) there can be no judgment upon them; but we do know the difference. What human father would condem thier small child to eternal punishment for doing something thing wrong because of their lack of knowledge. Can such a father on earth have more compassion than the one in heaven? No. So if this whole religion thing is to make any sense, we have to KNOW the difference and we have to start believing we have that knowledge.

The bible tells Joshua to go invade and kill women, children and animals; everything. This is genocide. This is evil. There is something wrong with (at least that section of) the book.

If another book tells you that you can beat your wife (lightly or not) or kill someone because they disagree with your religion (and even has the audacity to voice that disagreement) it is abuse and murder. It is evil. There is something wrong with (at least that section of) the book.

People need to stop struggling over the ancient words tinted by our savage history and believe in thier ability to know the difference between good and evil. These books can be great guides (and yes, I believe them to be inspired) but, when they contradict that internal knowledge of good and evil, the book needs to loose. There are many areas of grey where this might be difficult but there are plenty of areas where it is clear as day. Flying planes into office buildings and blowing up busses full of children are evil. Building schools & hospitals and teaching children not to hate are good. People of all religions need to check thier religion with thier heart and let their heart stop them from using thier religion as an excuse to do evil.

Is Islam (or at least parts of it) evil? Is America (or at least parts of it) evil? If we all don't already know the answer within our hearts, no amount of debate will help. Hopefully, if people focus on thier heart, and not what they read in a book or propoganda (from both sides) filled news reports, the answers will be a little easier to find.

Just my opinion.
