Note to commenter "Bubba": Islam and slavery

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by GB Gaskin (United States), Nov 26, 2002 at 11:33

There are too many comments here to read them all, but I have a short response to the questions "Bubba" raises and the false conclusion he reaches:

Those questions are based on faulty premises. You suggest that one is critical of Islam because of acts that are committed by Muslims. You further suggest that any type of war or conflict involving Christians must also conclude the evil of Christianity. This reasoning is faulty...

One can not judge a philosophy or religion by the abuse of it. The question is then, were these terrorist acts committed by Muslims LOGICALLY CONSISTENT with Islam? Were the acts committed by Christians LOGICALLY CONSISTENT with Christianity? If you look at the life of Jesus and that of Muhammad, you draw two different conclusions. ...
I could type a detailed reply to your comments, but this is the basic reply I want to give. You may also read my note posted August 1.

By the way, Muslims were involved in the slave trade in North Africa that resulted in millions being brought to West. Christians were involved in that, too, but again, I would assert that the practice was not logically consistent with Christianity.

Lastly, where is the Muslim outcry about slavery in Sudan? Mauritania? Ghana?
Submitting....
