Evil is not the question

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by Ben Shniper (United States), Aug 1, 2002 at 03:03

Evil is not the question, the question is whether the "West" can live in harmony with Islam. The answer is probably no, because tolerance is not a major part of Islam and there are no common sets of rules that can unite them. Look how the Muslim world respects the UN charter which calls for womens rights, human rights, and democracy!

So will there be a clash of civilizations? In my opinion, yes. If the West wins the war, it will once again occupy parts of the Arab world and once again try to democratize it. I see this starting with the US invasion in Afghanistan and continuing to Iraq and Palestine.
