Indeed, in Q3:18 Allah pronounces that he testifies that there is no diety except Him (Exact quote: Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)

You see never trust Muslim translations of embarrassing verse in the Qur'an So here we go:

1. The Muslim so called Shahada is not in the Qur'an It was made up the Muslim Ulama And here is al-Shahada in Arabic

AshHadu ana la ilaha ila Allah wa Ashhadu ana Muhammadan rasul Allah

Or: I witness/testify that there is no God but Allah and I witness/testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

Again this is not in the Qur'an

Now the most interesting word is AshHadu اشهد or I testify/witness

Now let us read together the transliteration of this little gem Q3:18 in Arabic

Shahida Allahu ana la ilaha ila huwa

Here we go again the first word Shahida is the past tense (m) of the word AshHadu in the above Shahada formula AshHadu is the present tense (m) for I witness/certify!

So we have: Allah testified/witnessed that there is no God but him!

Allah recited the Shahada!

What a disaster!

Oh circular reasoning? Muhammad hated the philosophers so don't even go there

>This self attestation of His supremacy by Allah in Q3:18 is completely confusing to readers like me. Perhaps Q3:18 will make more sense in original Arabic but if the above translation is correct, it makes little sense.I know that religious scriptures of all religions are subject to contradictions, non-understandability, and leaps of faith. So I will not mind if Quranic verses also suffer from such things but what troubles me is that Quran --with all its shortcomings-- is teh biggest source of religious hegemony and ethnocentrism. What can we do except repeating it over and over again.

The Qur'an is a literary disaster!

>Thank you DNM for pointing out.

Any time!
