The barbarian is at our gates again

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

When you speak of "softer" Quranic verses, I think of a short story I learned years ago.

When I was a young boy, I thought guns were bad. In all honesty, guns are neutral. It is dependent upon the user's intent for the gun. The gun can be evil or it may be good.

When a religion, however, is used perpetually to justify crimes against humanity, it must be stopped. I use the Crusades as an example.

Muslims were invading Europe. They had gained much ground in the kingdom of Christendom, and were starting a final move towards Rome. In desperation, the Pope and others assembled an army of Christians to repel the barbarians and retake the Holy Land. He won the first battle, but in his greed and stubbornness, lost many thousands more in further attempts at glorious conquest.

Today, the barbarian is at our gates again. This time, we shouldn't be as kind.
