Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam
in response to reader comment: not necessary

...for your insightful comments on Sanna Ahmed's post of 11/11/05. Indeed, the Koran itself provides many justifications for killing non-muslims and "unbelievers." My advice to anyone who wants to understand Islam is: "Read the Koran." I have read it twice, cover to cover. The first time I read it, I found it disturbing. I thought perhaps I missed something so I read it again... The book is largely about how Muhammad made war on everyone who didn't agree or accept his "revelation." The book is profoundly anti-Jewish and it assaults the most basic teachings of Christianity. Virtually every chapter of the Koran carries a condemnaton and warning to those who do not accept Muhammad's "revelation" (which of course is everyone who isn't Muslim). In the Koran, God is portrayed as a great cosmic shehk to whom all of humanity owes slavish obedience. God in the Koran is described in many great and lofty ways. The one thing the God of the Koran is certainly not described as is "Love." I am sorry, and do not mean to cause offense, but from my own reading of the Koran I do no view Islam as a "beautiful, peaceful religion." I believe everyone should read the Koran for her/himself and make up ones own mind.
