Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by Sarah (United Kingdom), Oct 24, 2004 at 11:35

This is a very interesting article. I hoped that since the US came into Saudi Arabia (during the Gulf War) women's status would change, but unfortunatly things got worse! No rights whatsoever! All that's said in the article is true and living there you can discover even more about the way women are treated.

I've just ordered a book from Amazon and read it. It's really good and based on a true story, and relates the horrible way women are treated over in Saudi. The hero is lucky because she had the chance to get away from it all, plus her suffering, compared to a lot of other women, is mild! The book is called: "A Runaway Wife" by: Sayidet Al Hijaz. The author had to use a pen name to protect her family. It really moved me, as I come from that same part of the world.

I do hope that women would get a better treatment in countries where a religion, such as Islam, gives them so many rights! But culture and tradition are the religion there and not God's words!
