More than just a Peace Pipe...

Daniel Pipes gives us a fairly even-handed view of political Islam. True Islam, however, can only be mild as the word Islam means "peace" and "submission (to the will of God)." He quotes Paul Johnson who himself quotes the Qur'an out of context. The Quraish, who were wholehearted Pagans, tried their utmost to extinguish Islam, often torturing those who converted to monotheism. They pelted the Prophet with stones so that he would have to empty the blood from his shoes. When the persecution became unbearable, the Muslims migrated to Medina, but this was not enough. The Pagans followed the Muslims and waged war against them and it is only in this light that the Muslims were permitted to defend themselves. It clearly says,
"Fight (only) those who fight you and do not transgress. Verily, God does not love the transgressors (2:191)." It is the teachings of benevolence and mercy even during war that make Islam a religion of peace.

If Mr. Pipes read further about Moorish history, he would see that Jews were not only treated well, but also that they were often appointed as judges and magistrates. Thus, Muslims were created for the betterment of mankind and true Islam is that practiced by Prophet Muhammad and his companions, not by Usama bin Ladin and his cronies.
