Of course the Author of this statement is correct. ... Muhammed was a merchant who was exposed to many religious ideas. The Monotheism of the Jews, and the Messianic ideas of Christianity.

Nowhere in the Bible, Hebrew or Christian parts, does it say convert or die. The Jews pretty much kept to themselves, wanted to stay that way. Christ told his Apostles to go out into the world and spread the Gospel.

But Muhammed had another idea, you have 3 choices, 1. become a Muslim, 2. pay a tax 3. Die.

And so his followers spread thru out the Medditerrean area, until stopped by the Franks in 742 A.D.

They captured Jerusalem, burned down the Christian churches, which prompted Christianity to respond with the Crusades.
