I still support Pipes, but not Giuliani

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Why do you keep harping on this issue, Mr. Pipes?

Submitted by Steve Abrams (United States), Jan 8, 2008 at 19:16

I just wanted to reiterate my appreciation for Daniel Pipes's work informing the public about how dilemmas in the Islamic world will impact America, Europe and the rest of the world. I commend Mr. Pipes for his painstaking work in this regard.

I'm a Democrat, I know Pipes is a conservative and a Republican, and that's fine with me too. But - I lived in New York in the 80s and 90s and for all the improved safety and prosperity that happened in the city under his administration, Rudy Giuliani would just be a disaster as president.

I agree with Chris Rock, who said that Giulini is like a pit bulll that you'd definitely want with you if somebody is breaking into your house, but if you leave him at home unattended he just might eat your kids. I don't think that Rudy's hyper-macho foreign policy ideas will do the nation much good, and I also feel that his "hero of 9/11" image has been serously tarnished by his blatant attempt to cash in on it financially and politically.

I'd like to remember Rudy as that brave, mob-busting prosecutor he was in the 80s, not the creepy financial and political operator he has become today. Our nation deserves a better leader, and I'm disappointed that Pipes has thrown his support to Giuliani.

The Obama-was-a-Muslim articles are really interesting, but please, don't continue trying to use his (negligible) Muslim heritage as fuel for a GOP scare tactic.
