Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Major Flaw In Daniel Pipes Reasoning : Becoming Muslim Requires A Mature, Public Declaraion of Faith

Submitted by Michael (United States), Jul 6, 2008 at 21:03

You can't be born into a religion. I am a Christian, I was not born as a Christian because my parents were Christians, I am a Christian because because I PERSONALLY accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, not because my father accepted Jesus as his savior. It is irresponsible ...to say that because Barak's father was a practicing Muslim (practicing applied loosely,) that Barak is a muslim by association.

As Curtis Sharif said in an earlier post, being a muslim requires a public declaration of faith, this has not been proven to of happened. Islam is a religion, not something your just born as, as I was not born as a Christian. It only takes a little bit of common sense to understand this, but I assume that some don't want to understand this because they want to believe that Obama is or was a Muslim because they want enough people to believe this slanderous propanganda of the right, so that maybe they may vote for McCain. The republican likes to try an win elections using fear tatics because they lose on the real issues that matter to the voters.

To be a Christian, I accepted Jesus as my savior, and decided to live my life as closely as I can, to the teachings of the bible. I didn't become a Christian at 3 months old, or even 5 years old, because my parents took me to church every Sunday for the first 7 years of my life. I had to make that personal decision to become a believer of Christ myself. Just as Obama would have to make a personal decision or as Curtis Sharif earlier stated, a public declaration to become a muslim, he couldn't become a Muslim by following his stepfather every now and then, just as I couldn't become a Christian by my parents simply taking me to church with them on sundays.

Barak Obama becoming president doesn't put our great country in danger just because a few people in the EXTREME right of the republican party believe that he is a muslim. It would be far more dangerous to elect someone who is another Neo-Conservative like John McCain is.
