Suggestion to Dr Pipes about Obama's boyhood and the Religion of Peace

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Goran A. (Israel), Jan 12, 2008 at 06:37

Suggestion to Dr Pipes:

As some readers have pointed out: Whether Muslims and Muslim leaders world-wide perceive Obama as Muslim or not is a major factor in its own right.

Indeed, do they perceive him to be?

Normally this would be the duty of the media to find out. But the U.S. mainstream media is so politically-correct that it DARE NOT examine these issues even though they are of concern to MANY people. They would rather focus on what cafeteria Obama goes to, than on whether in his boyhood he was nourished and inspired by the "Religion of Peace" (god, do I LOVE this monicker for Islam ! I often don't even use the quotation marks since they shave off a bit of the exquisite charm of the sarcasm!)

Since the study of Islam is your professional field of interest, could you, perhaps, yourself ask prominent Muslims (especially outside the US) - and also Muslim scholars ! - if they think Obama is (in THEIR eyes) still a Muslim, in view of the fact that he was as a boy.

And if yes, to get the answer to your question: if he was a Muslim, is he therefore (in their view) now a Murtadd ?

Finally one question (which I should ask the media but, as I said...): wouldn't it be normal and logical for the media to PUBLICLY (preferably on TV) ask Obama himself, in an interview, as follows:

" We know you are not Muslim. However, although your website denies it, it has been discovered that you WERE a Muslim as a boy. Please say:

(a) can you confirm the fact ?

(b) can you tell us (since a child is ALWAYS affected by the religious milieu it is exposed to) how it affected you ?; and

(c) will you instruct your website to correct the untrue information it put on the net ? "

Dr Pipes, do you know personally any newsguy who would brave the politically-correct establishment and [publicly !] ask Obama these simple questions? As a last resort, perhaps, a friend of yours who would do it - or who knows someone who would do it - almost as a personal favor ?

(Sad how low the Western mind has fallen in its pursuit of the truth, hasn't it? We send space probles to Saturn and Uranus but it has become a tall order to ask a man who has realistic chances of heading the most powerful country in the world if he was affected by the Religion of Peace - AS A BOY ! )

Respectfully,

Goran A.

Daniel Pipes replies:

My guess is that lawful Islamists will be quite pleased by Obama's Muslim background but hotheads will want to execute him.

No, I don't know who might ask your questions. But should Obama be the Democratic candidate for president, they surely will be asked.
