Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Even if Obama were a Muslim, so what?

Ben,

First, let me say, I totally agree with you about Pat Robinson becoming president - Scary stuff there. Fanatics, regardless of their bent, tend to put me off.

Second, I want to address ignorance. I have many friends from all walks of life, different religions, places of origin, etc. I do not consider myself a prejudiced person. So when I couldn't sleep one night about 6 years ago I turned on the TV. I wish I could remember the exact title, but it was something like "The First Islamic Convention in North America". I watched because I knew very little about the Muslim community and thought this would be informative. What I heard simply floored me.

There was a huge auditorium full of muslims, most all professionals, at least by appearances. One speaker after another proceeded to speak to the topic of how they envisioned taking over the United States. They would own businesses, get on school boards, and get elected to public office. All admirable, and I might say, typical of people who come to the US and these things are encouraged. What was not typical, of course, was the goal of overthrowning the country by peaceful means. I mean, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Assimilation and joining the larger community was definitely not on the agenda.

Would someone who may have attended this conference please explain to me these proposed activities, which to me fall into the category of "treason" if you are indeed a US citizen. I found a partial transcript of this event a few years later but could not find it the last time I tried. The Second Annual convention was in Farsi (sorry, not sure of the spelling here.) It was so hostile and so calculated, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself. I am sincerely interested in the goals of this organization and would be grateful to anyone who can provide further explanation.

Deb
