"What has Israel done for us" is a wrong question to ask.

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Yes, but what has Israel done for us lately?

Dear Dr Pipes: Your reader SS asks "what has Israel done for us lately?" This is one of the most absurd questions that I have heard in a long time. Israel is a tiny country sorrounded by countries who will not shed a tear if Israel disappears from the face of the earth. In reality, most of Israel's neighbors will do whatever they can to destroy it. So the question about what has Israel done or can do for us is irrelevant. Even Bosnian Muslims had not done much for us before we went to help them. And on the flip side, had Israel been a part of modern western Europe (or of even non-Islamic south east Asia) we would not have had to do anything for it. It would have been an even bigger bastion of scientific discoveries and Industrial growth than it is now and we all would have reaped even bigger benefits.
