Yes, it Matters

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Does it really matter??

Submitted by Ian (Canada), Sep 24, 2010 at 10:54

Yes, it matters. Recent polls show that the perception that Barack Obama is a Muslim increases as his popularity decreases.

In the eyes of the American public there is obviously a connection between dependability and faith. Leaders with strong 'Christian values', and regular church attendance, tend to have a high approval rating.

We like to think that we are more enlightened than this, but the evidence says otherwise. Like it or not, we can't ignore these divisions in our society, and assume it doesn't matter.
