My BS meter started ringing during Obama's 2004 DNC keynote address

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

It was by pure chance that I switched the channel to the televised 2004 Democrat National Convention right before Obama was about to deliver the keynote address for John Kerry. What urged me to listen to his speech was the tremendous build-up given to him by the announcers. It was like listening to basketball agents giving props to LeBron James before he ever announced that he was coming out for the NBA draft.

They were saying, "Here's the guy to watch. We understand that he is a phenomenal speaker, and some even say that he could be the Democratic candidate in 2012."

They were off by four years. And that's not all they were off.

I listened to his entire speech, and unlike the mesmerized masses in the audience who were "oohing" and "ahhing" to the sound of every sentence, I had my BS detector turned on to Maximum the whole time.

The first bell that sounded came when Obama said that his parents gave him "an African name, Barack, or "blessed." I already knew that Barack was an Arabic word for "blessed."

Later on in his speech, my detector went off again when Obama said, "Now, let me be clear. Let me be clear. We have real enemies in the world. These enemies must be found. They must be pursued. And they must be defeated."

I wondered, "Now, who are the enemies that he is talking about?"

Then when he followed that up with "If there's an Arab-American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties," the meter started ringing off the hook.

I thought, "He just played the race card and the Islamophobia card. Gosh, he sounds more like a CAIR spokesman than a Chicago Senator. Maybe, he thinks that the Zionists are the real enemies." After all, Obama never cited any other ethnicity or religion in his speech.

I, too, came away with the impression that I was listening to a slick, used-car salesman.

And, I wasn't buying what he was selling then, or now..
