Muslim at Birth

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Paul (United States), Jan 9, 2008 at 18:33

It is my understanding during my time working in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia), unlike many cultures or religions where the choldren assume the religion of their father, Islam is different.

Under Islam, if either parent is Muslim, their children are automatically Muslim at birth. Further, Barack Obama has previously said he sometimes attended the United Church of Christ (which any non Christian can do), not that he was a member of that church.

The issue could be cleared easily by Barack telling his followers when he found Christ and left Islam for Christianity with his proof of baptism. What is really telling is not what Barack says, it is what he doesn't say.
