Thin ice for such statements

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Brandon Thompson (United States), Jan 9, 2008 at 11:23

  1. To say that obama's occasional attendance to mosque sevices implies that he was an irregularly practicing muslim is absolutely rediculous. Millions of americans attend church on christmas and easter and that does not justify the statement that they are christian. they may even follow some christian principles but it certainly does not imply that they are christian.
  2. and as for the "evidence" that he occasionally followed his father to the mosque for prayer does not imply that he participated or that he meant it even if he did participate. once again... millions of americans have gone to church with their family because their family requested them to. they did it out of curtousey not out of some obligation to a religion that they "irregularly practiced"
  3. and you cannot draw from the statement

"Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia"

and say that that implied that he did practice islam on an irregular basis. that is one of the many possible meanings of that statement. to say that is to twist the words of those classmates and teachers and thus make yourself a politician.

lastly, who cares if he was a muslim in the past! yes, the muslim religion demands the execution of any man who converts from the muslim religion... but this isn't the middle east! obama is clearly practicing christianity. if you wanted to publish a valid, meaningful article, then you could publish one regarding the "economic parity" (communism) that his church practices. ...
