Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam

Submitted by Jon (United States), Jan 9, 2008 at 16:12

"Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia"

This is further proof that there is a decent chance Obama just went along with what was in the vogue in Indonesia (and still is) which is to be Muslim, and also to spend time with his father. This same kind of thing happens in many semi-religious american families, you know, the ones who go to church on Christmas eve and on Easter.

I'd guess most of the readers here are conservative, and are involved on a greater level with their faith than many semi-religious families in america. I'd bet that most of the devout Christians here wouldn't even consider those semi-religious families as ones that believe in Christ. I think the same could be said by Muslim's around the world, towards Barack Obama's participation in religious activites in Indonesia. Which would make Barack Obama's presidency a non issue in the terms of his faith, to (moderate) Muslims around the world.
