Government and the religious test

Reader comment on item: Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam
in response to reader comment: Requirements

The Constitution says the US Government may not require a religious test.

That does NOT exclude the US Citizen voters from having their own tests for each candidate, and expressing them in the secret ballot box, including any sort of personal reason for not voting them in, yes, including their religion, imagined or otherwise.

It sure seems to me that GWB's religious values have been under immense scrutiny and quite often denounced by the entire democratic party - indeed the democratic party denounces the entire republican party for their democratic partisan perception of the republican's "evangelical" religion, and how they feel it will influence them in office.

Now we see those same anti-religious, anti-republican zealouts peel out this twisted screed about no religious test for office when it comes to Obama. I find it absolutely the most hypocritical 180 degree turnaround - while yet practicing the denigration of the other party's religion simultaneously.

Once again, ALL US CITIZEN voters have the right to NOT VOTE for any candidate based on merely their perception of their religion, or any other issue they deem relevant.

It is ONLY the GOVERNMENT and their representative and law enforcement officals who MAY NOT bar a candidate from office for their religious affiliation - aka- a religious test.

When will the people - filled with hyper-partisan raging defense of their candidate, take just a few moments to examine their mind and 9th-12th grade lessons concerning the US Constitution ?

I find it quite alarming when someone has a vague implication that the US Constitution has some sort of demand upon the individual voter, and can be edict and enforcement to determine their ruminations concerning the religious status of candidates in the privacy of the voting booth ! This is - EXACTLY WHAT ! - a secret ballot and an open system of casting one's vote is SUPPOSED to PREVENT.

Even the suggestion of such a POWER of the US Government over the individual voter is a sick, sick, affront to freedoms established in this United States of America. I certainly HOPE I have misinterpreted or over-expanded the meaning - vague yet there nonetheless, of your comment. If not please consider my thoughts, and absorb the reasons for them. The US Government is RESTRICTED in this sense you refer to, NOT THE AMERICAN VOTER!
