Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?

QUESTION........

I read quite a bit of middle east history, have never come across a claim predating the 20th century naming Jerusalem is the 3rd holiest city of Islam. Have You?

Is this just another example of muslims claiming their holy places on the holy sites of others?
