Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?
in response to reader comment: Why Christians hate Muslims.....

Submitted by Jessica (United States), Dec 10, 2008 at 19:33

I am sorry, and I mean no disrespect, but that is so untrue. I am a Christian, and I would know why many Chrisians "hate" Muslims. It is only due to ignorance and misconception due to classifying all Muslims as "evil" based on the actions of a few black sheep (terrorists). We do not hate your religion because of jealousy or fear that your religion will one day be the largest religion in the world, and ESPECIALLY not because Muhammad Ali or Will Smith or Neil Armstrong were Muslim, because I could come up with 100 more names that are 10 times more important and significant than those names, so being jealous because of that is not just wrong, but REALLY wrong.

I do not know what sources you are basing this statement from, but I can assure you that they are mostly incorrect. Of course, I can not say that all Christians are this way, because that would be a lie. Yes, there are those who may agree with your reasons for hating you, but you can not base an entire religion on the beliefs of a few indiviuals. Yes, there are many Christians who do not necessarily "like" Muslims, but that is due to the misunderstanding of the religion's beliefs and is also based on groups such as Al-Qaeda. Now if I asked you whether or not all Muslims hated Christians, what would your response be?

And furthermore, what would your response be if I claimed that the reason why Muslims hate Christians is because of the freedoms we have and the fact that we are the largest religion in the world? I would think that any person who is Muslim would say that this statement is not true, because that would be such a petty reason for an entire religion to hate another. It just really irritates me when I read things that people say that are ignorant and untrue. I am in a class that teaches about the Qur'an and my professor is Muslim, and he is constantly telling us that everything is just a misconception and that we can not claim anything based on the actions of a few people out of millions of others who believe otherwise. So before you go judging all Christians, look at your own people in your religion and ask yourself whether or not they all hate Christians (like the terrorists do)?
