in response to reader comment: Donot be sick of Religion

I am of European descent and quite proud of that. I love my people and our culture. However, I have a better than average understanding of history (at least in the US) and can put current history in the context of the bigger picture. That being said, I clearly recognize that from the point of view of most of the world, my ancestors in Europe were viewed as less-than-civilized and, to a large degree, outside the boundaries of major trade routes.

My ancestors held ancient religious and spiritual beliefs that worked for us for a long, long time. That is until we were effectively converted to Christianity, a product of the Middle East. I would think the history of pre-Islam Arabia is a similar story... The conversion process in Europe took many forms, but in the end it was by social pressure, the sword, or slick talking, depending on the place and the point of the overall conversion process.

I believe that it was the unmatched intelligence and strategic planning of the Jewish people that created the Mid-East, European (and now world-wide) religious world we know today. Any objective individual cannot help but be amazed and impressed with what the Jewish people were able to do. And on a side note, there is not a people on this earth (arguably, of course) who would not do the same thing if they could.

That being said, I am happy to see the slowly emerging interest in those of European descent of their ancient religious and spiritual heritage. Sadly, we do not have a great deal of knowledge of these beliefs, but I am certain we will slowly piece it all together. And this time we will write it down.

I would suggest to those practicing Islam to reacquaint yourselves with your impressive past (to most around the world, more impressive that my ancestors).

So to tie this post to the topic at hand... "Do not be sick of religion"! Instead, love your ancient heritage and the religious and spiritual traditions worked for many, many years.

And one last time... I can't begin to express my admiration for the Jewish people for their intelligence, resourcefulness, ability to preserve their heritage and survive. Most sincerely!
