Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?
in response to reader comment: Mohammed was not a prophet

thank you for your bigotry, do you have anything else to offer that might involve constructive dialogue?

As an answer to your "question", like most records of the prophets, Muhammad SAWS did not prophesize in the way you indicate. Prophets are not some kind of soothesaying vending machines. Their mission was to deliver the truth that there is only one God and to worship this supremely benevolent being.

The stagnation of Islam in recent centuries is an undeniable phenomenom, however as a convert to Islam my life has only gone forward because of it. Before I was content to not fulfill my potential doing unskilled low paid manual labour (often dangerous), now , in my thirties, I am studying for two degrees and aim for two more. further despite my ongoing personal challenges with self-discipline I am a much better person as those who know me would attest. The first word of the revelation is usually translated as "read", not pray or submit or anything else, but read... i.e. go and learn and decide for yourself.

If the muslim world is inevitably backwards (i.e. not just now, but at all times) explain to me how so much western science and history has been transmitted through muslim scholars and how much is built on muslim discoveries (ex: cartography, astronomy and maths). Discoveries spurred on by the injunctions in Islam to go and learn and study and interact with the world.

I am not a submissive muslim and neither is my wife or most of the muslims that we are friends with, they are highly educated people who participate in democratic society in many roles such as doctors (including my wife I know at least ten personally), lawyers and teachers. Anyone who thinks my wife is submissive and a pushover had better watch out if they want to mess with her.

your sincerely,

Abdul Rahman.

ps apologies to anyone who is awaiting a reply, I have had an assignment backload to get out of the way.
