To Eugene,

You said in your post: "Do you happen to know that the word "love" is not even mentioned there [The Quran]?"

Here are few verses from the Quran for you to comtemplate:

"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you (humans) mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect." (30:21)

"It is He (Allah) who creates from the beginning and He can restore (life). And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of loving-kindness." 85:13-14

"O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness....live with them on a footing of kindness and equity" (4:19)

"Worship Allah and join not any partners with Him; and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are of kin, neighbors who are strangers, your inmate friends and associates, the way-farer (ye meet), and what your right hand possess (i.e. captives), for Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious." 4:36

"If anyone slays a human being, unless it be (punishment) for murder, or for spreading mischief on earth, it shall be as though he had slain all humankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all humankind" 5:32

"Invite (all humankind) to the path of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation and argue with them in the most kindly manner, for, indeed, your Lord knows best as to who strays from His path, and best who are the right-guided." 16:125

"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety and fear Allah, for Allah is well acquainted with all that you do." 5:8
