Islam vs the West: I don't think so!

Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?

What really winds me up is the constant referencing of Islam Vs The West. The reality is that a far more complex interplay between Islam, The West, and developing countries such as China and India, is emerging. To merely define the curent international political situation in terms of the West and Islam is to ignore atrocities by radical islamic militants in areas as diverse (and non-Western) as Kashmir, Chechnya, the Philippines, Nigeria, as well as within secular islamic countries such as Algeria and Egypt. The real picture is a battle between the civilised peoples and nations of the world, be they European, Israeli, Indian, Chinese, African or American. It is about time the media and politicians realised this actual state-of-affairs, and the West Vs Islam concept can be sent to the scrap heap where it belongs.
