Reader comment on item: [The American Muslim Council:] 'Mainstream' Muslims?

Submitted by Mike Hollins (United States), Jun 18, 2002 at 15:56

Director Mueller's decision is misguided at best, and at worst, improper. It is as if, during World War II, Director Hoover had chosen to speak to a German-American organization which presented a moderate face but whose members had publicly praised National Socialism. How serious about protecting America can the FBI be, when it treats people who have given their fellow Americans good reason to distrust their loyalty as legitimate? The FBI's reported omission of several known Islamist terrorists from its "most wanted" list and incorrect statement of the reward for capturing those listed suggest that the proposed speech is not the only evidence of weak leadership. President Bush should make a clean sweep of it by finding new Directors for both the FBI and CIA.
