".....To paraphrase Jesus' saying : "The joy over one Moslem sinner that repenteth compensates the bitterness over nine who do not ". So even if talking to nine Moslem machines might be waste of time , sowing a germ of doubt and injecting a single critical thought in one is , to my mind , worth making an effort ....."

Ianus, that neatly and exactly encapsulates my purpose in being on this board. That is why I disagree with some posters who think that once a Muslim always a Muslim. I think the internet is beginning to make a difference to Muslim thinking, at least I have begun to notice it among some Muslims I know.

The childhood indoctrination does tend to hardwire some of the more bizarre Islamic beliefs into Muslims. But I think the human brain, fortunately, retains its capacity to absorb new ideas and think rationally into adulthood. Nobody watching the video of the adherents of 'pure' Islam, the Taliban , using a child to hack off the head of someone they considered an enemy, could have been left untouched. Doubts about their faith would have wormed its way into the minds of many who watched the horror unfolding on their screens as 'holy' Koranic verses were chanted in the background.
