Reader comment on item: Bolstering Moderate Muslims

Submitted by Abir Chaaban (Canada), Apr 26, 2007 at 18:11

While moderate Muslims do exist, relentless efforts are being made by the radical secular socialists and nationalists to alienate them in Western academia, in the same way as the Islamists are alienated. Then the moderates end up sympathising with the alienated Islamists rather than the Middle Eastern academics who adopt ideologies such as those of Jamal Abdul-Nasser, and Saddam Hussein with a western flavour.

I think that even if the moderates do exist, the efforts that are made to silence them are much stronger than they might be able to handle, and perhaps, eventually the moderates will go on with their lives as purposeless creatures who are certain that neither in the Middle East, nor in the West do the moderates stand a chance to fight against neither the radical seculars, nor the Islamists that the radicals are breeding.
