"..A religion is not bad per se, because it attracts criminals and nutheads, or just zealots. But it is bad, if its core is based on hatred and spreading hatred..."

and thats exactly the reason why islam is bad. it has no spiritual, philosophical or theological foundations. if you look at central tenets of islam, they are just 'things to do'. theres no deep philosophical thought process involved there. i wouldnt expect this from anyone in 6th century arabia anyway. arabia is not known for any philosophical insights. islam is based on borrowed concepts from christianity and judaism. the behavior of mohammad is like that of current muslim warlords. compare that to Jesus or Buddha or Zarthustra or Confucius or any other spiritual guru or 'prophet'. none of them, when they started speaking, faced any violence or perpetrated any violence.

the people of mecca drove mohammad out when he started. nothing of that sort happened to zarthustra. why? you think meccans were mad men? the question that show me what mohammad brought new is very relevant. and if you look at the reasons, you wont be surprised. islam in a nutshell is arab imperialism. replacing indigenous population's life view with arab language, thoughts, values and religion. please read North Africa's history. the fact that 1.2 billion follow this so called 'religion' does not make it legitimate. it just makes it powerful...

i take you to be a non practising muslim with mixed religion family. now go and observe for yourself how many muslim women marry/allowed to marry non muslims vis-a-vis males? this is just 1 small exercise. you can carefully observe the behavior of muslims as a group/society everywhere. right from buddhist thailand, to hindu india to christian west. just like these days we are ever eager to justify muslim terrorists, lets try to justify the negative view so many people hold against islam. can we find reasons? i think so. we can talk about crusades too, which is always the favorite topic of 'moderate' muslims while defending islam.

it seems u hav ea lot of problems with milind's view. the usual excuse given against such examples are that not all muslims are bad!! its a tangential question. not all of germany was bad when hitler started. the real problem is not muslims. its islam. these so called fanatic muslims always claim that they want to take their society to the days of mohammad!! now does that give you an idea? how were the days and ways of mohammad!! the days of the purest islam!
