Reader comment on item: Bolstering Moderate Muslims
in response to reader comment: "Reinterpreting the Qur'an"

Submitted by moderate Muslim (United States), Apr 25, 2007 at 21:50

Ok lactanius. you and i disagree

your knowledge of jihad is ok, but you are missing one fundamental concept.

most of the verses commanding Muslims to fight were revealed during times which their was a war going on, this war having been started by the kuffar of madina. SO when it says Kuffar, it does not mean all non Muslims, but referes to the groups fighting against the prophet. These passages were revealed so that cowards or hypocrites would not shy away from battle in the true way of allah, defending his religion. I believe that the prophet led a better life, not easier, but better, and I believe that Muslims need to stop misinterpretations of the Quran from corrupting the view of our sacred creed. That is why I am here.

PS- thank you for remaing civil. not all were so civil.
