Reader comment on item: Bolstering Moderate Muslims

Submitted by Sanchez (Brazil), Apr 17, 2007 at 21:33

The term "moderate muslim" is as ridiculous as the term "moderate Buddhist". Of course we all know there is no need for the latter term and this is precisely why the former is such an exercise in futility. Forget moderate muslims, can you define how a "muslim" is supposed to be like? We never have to engage in these linguistic gymnastics when we describe Christians or Jews or Hindus or Buddhists, do we? A Christian is a Christian, there is no need to label somebody a "moderate Christian" or a "Christianist" or a "Christiano-fascist" or some such absurdity. The fact that Islam alone needs to be described in so many flavors is another absurdity.

...The fact that it is the simplest thing in the world for ANY muslim to pretend to be "moderate" is the other absurdity in this whole exercise.
