My pleasure

Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza
in response to reader comment: Thank you Ianus!

Hi, Poseidon !

There is really no reason to thank me for anything, dear friend. It is the most basic human sentiment to oppose evil when one sees it at work and as Dostoyevsky put it compassion and sorrow don't depend upon distance and I'd add upon time either. Crimes perpetrated a few thousand miles from here a few decades or even centuries back remain as heinous and hateful as if they had been committed a few meters from here yesterday. And it is not only the extant ruins of desecrated cemeteries, churches or monasteries of Ani or Northern Cyprus that make these crimes transcendental. No human being worth the name can listen to the Turkish lies and denials without deepest indignation and disgust as no one can read the documents on their heinous crimes without profound horror.

Besides, the tragedy of Eastern Christianity at the hand of Turkish barbarity is for me the most instructive and urgent lesson human history has ever provided. It is a warning and a message which only the corrupt, the blind or the mad can ignore.

And it's of course always a real pleasure of higher order to learn the spirit of a great millenia-old civilization which has created works and values that will never perish as long as civilized and free men and women live on this planet.

With kind regards ,
