It's not a question of definitions but of hard historical evidence. The Turkish invasion of 1571 had degraded a flourishing island with high culture and developed commerce into a typical Moslem cesspool as Islam always does wherever it prevails impsoing its vicious laws.

"The 3 centuries under which the island was ruled by the kings and queens of the House of Lusignan were the most brilliant epoch in its varied history...its remarkable achievements in every domain of human activity invested it with an importance among the nations of Europe wholly out of proportions ot its small size and population. [...] History of the Turkish rule , on the other hand, offers none of the attractions of the wonderful epoch which was separated from it only by 82 years of the Venetian occupation. It reveals no tale of martial exploits and fabulous wealth , no effloresecence of Frankish art and letters on the rich Levantine soil. Rather it is a story of provincialism and decay , of contracting commerce and unenterprising administration , a story not regal but parochial[...] from being a kingdom renowned throuout Christendom teh island was become an obscure Ottoman depedency... "

Leaving America with its tribal pre-Columbian pre-history apart in the case of Greeks on Cyprus you have to start with the late Mycenaean period around 1400 BC , i.d. you have to move 3400 years back to see the origins of Hellenism on Cyprus. If it doesn't give the Greeks an obvious right and advantage over savage Moslem invaders of 1571 and the settlers and Quranic schools they brought with them - just as in 1974 - , then what does ?

>It is a human shame, that two ethnic groups are not able to live together on such an island.<

Don't blame ethnicity here as you have around the world plenty of ethnic groups living side by side in peace and friendship. Blame Islam which doesn't tolerate and has never tolerated as equal anything except itself and has been waging jihad against everybody else since its grim inception among the illiterate Beduins of Arabia. In Turkey Islam produced several genocides and wiped out ALL non-Islamic populations and cults. And don't fool us about children. Turkish education system brings up good jihadists and haters of kafirs. Turkish shahids killed in in Chechnia or in the sea near Gaza offer a telling glimpse into what is to be expected from 100% Islamized Turkey in the future !
