Greek Cyprus

Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza
in response to reader comment: Any information on period from 1960 to 1974?

Dear Sir

Your reference of the mentioned time period is probably very important ,however, the time preceeding 1960 and even the British occupation is equally important. The British, like everywhere had played the game of "divide et impera" . In Cyprus they favored the Turks who were not fighting for the independence (or for Enosis). If my historical memory is right before the Ottoman-Turkish (between the 16th and 19th) rule of the island, it was purely populated by Greek speaking people. The Turkish people on the island live on appropriated land ...from the Greek Cypriotes. Even though I had not been the fan of Makarios, it is one's choosing how far we want to go back in history.
