Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza

Submitted by Hikmet Pala (United Kingdom), Jul 20, 2010 at 15:47

Sir,

I am astonished by the burden of disinformation you have loaded on your Blog. So much so, that occasionally you contradict yourself in great proportions.

For starters when you talk about Turkish invasion of Northern Cyprus, you omit Greek terror on Greek socialists, trade unionists, and slaughter of Turkish population in enclaves. Not once but several times...

Somehow you call Cyprus "A Greek Island", however, since 1570 A.D. Cyprus has been an Ottoman Domain and circa 1878 a British Mandate...

You mention peaceable Greeks being kept out by a [non-existent] wall, whereas Gaza wall is so real that Banksy even painted his famour graffitis on it. Your "peaceable Greeks" imported from mainland Greece, killed so many undefended, truly impoverished and defenceless Turks in their enclaves, waves upon waves...

Your reference to Emine Erdogan, -who is not a political person but just a mother, the wife of the P.M. and a woman who is just sensitive to inhumanity,- is just a cheap ploy.

Seemingly you find it convenient not to mention the Israeli Deputy Foreign Secretary's genuinely demeaning act against the Turkish Ambassador... whereas having killed [in international waters] 9 Turkish peace activists is not sufficient to recall the Ambassador?!!!

Also, compared with Israel's recent use of Phosphate bombs, perhaps your mentioning of unconfirmed use of napalms will shy away...

Well, this is rich: "Gazans enjoy real autonomy"... is a good example of morbid humour. Well when you are not at the receiving end of it, but delivering it, it becomes sadistic.

For your mentioning of, and I quote "Turkish forces moved in to seize it, thereby prompting the entire Greek population (fearing a massacre) to flee." can you remember two names: Sabra, Shatila, ... Thanks to Israeli Forces, who herded Palestinians to the Lebanese Militia, they couldn't even flee. Let alone their own massacres in Gaza and the West Bank

Hypocrisy runs amok in the Middle East, and Israel is not immune to it. At least Turkey is in spending genuine effort to end her own hypocrisies, whereas Israel is far from even admitting hers.

I stopped reading at the reference to "a Greek island." I did not use this expression in my article.
