Hi Aymenn

This is just an addendum

I also would like to see ianus touching on the issue of CENTO or the Central Treaty Organization (established in 1955 and dissolved in 1979) or in Arabic Helf Baghdad or the Treaty of Baghdad and the members of such treaty were Britain, Iraq (until 1959), Iran, Pakistan, AND TURKEY and CYPRUS was a central part of such organization and the aim of such treaty was to keep communism under control at any cost and the US was not a member but it needed such organzation for their 6th Fleet security and supplies

Now enter Nasser who had no like for such organzation and he did see it as a threat to his rule in Egypt and his ambitions in the Arab world so it makes one wonder how much of all this as having the Turks occupy Cyrpus can be a way to threaten Nasser and at the same time is a pay back by Britain and the US to the Turks for their support against Communism

Nasser felt that he had to support the Greeks and Makarious (and indeed he was a great friend of Makarious) as he felt that a Turkish Cyprus would be a threat to him and I do believe that he warned the US about Turkish ambitions. But did anyone listen?

And for reasons that I do not understand the rule of Nasser in such tragedy is not very much explored
