"Greek Love" for Makarios?

For his dedication to nonalignment they loved the Archbishop in Athens, so you say, Ianus. Then they tried to kill him. Now, that, as we say in America, is really getting the shaft! Archbishop Makarios' unforgivable offense? He was opposed to a "solution" for the Cyprus problem that would have subjected the Turkish minority there to the same fate as overtook the Cretan and Rhodian Turkish communities: expulsion or death. These were not illiterate peasants but a highly civilized, well assimilated community who spoke a Greek dialect--some still do--and for centuries lived peaceably with their neighbors.
