" So we are being told happy news from Turkey of "secular" reforms and Westernization , even though what we see (99,8% Islamization rate) hardly confirms the most modest expectations about secularism . Therefore, I'd rather believe what I can see than what I am told ."

The 99.8% Islamization and the more mosques-than-doctors phenomena was a bit of a giveaway. But the 'peace flotilla' debacle really clinched it. The 'martyrs' (a.k.a. fanatic fascists & posthumous Darwin award winners ) who lost their lives did so knowing full well they were doing going to rile Israel but sailing into its territory. I have no doubt there was clandestine backing from people in either the Turkish government or military . At the very least you could say neither of those agencies did anything to stop a situation that was obviously going to turn into a conflict - any fool could see the most likely outcome. Yet they did nothing to stop the chance of loss of sacred Turkish lives. Quite cynical.

Oh, but what really drove the point home about the sheer hypocrisy of that government - was the attack by Turkish armed forces the very next week in north eastern Iraq- south western Turkey - on Kurds - which apparently killed well over a hundred of them..

So much for peace and tolerance.
