Stephen Connor ,

I agree on a bit faulty nature of the comparison between Gazastan and the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus. But I don't find the comparison between the Greeks/Turks and Poles/Germans to be very helpful either. These are equally apples and oranges . You write in particular :

" The intense Greek/Turkish rivalry initiated by the Ottoman conquest complicated life on Cyprus irreparably but that is not justification for the Greek Cypriot nationalists evicting all inhabitants of Turkish descent as many would have done had it not been for Turkish intervention"

Now have you ever heard what has happened to ALL the Greeks in Asia Minor between 1919-1922 or in Constantinople in September 1955? And what do you the Greeks in Cyprus may have thought about that , I pray ? After sadistically exterminating Hellenism in Asia Minor it was easily predictible the Turks would turn to finish off Cypriote Hellenism as well . They are inspired by the same mass murderer after all who had c.1 000 000 Greeks murdered and 1 500 000 expelled from their millenia-old homeland.

This notorious mass murderer unlike Hitler has his statues , so revered by the servile Turkish population , decorating almost every public square in Turkey . How can you suppose Kemalism in Cyprus should be so much different from Kemalism in Asia Minor ? Kemal for a Greek means exactly the same what Hitler means for a Polish Jew - an existential threat , animplacable war criminal and mass murderer , despite all the Kemalist propganda in the West.

So why are you so amazed that the Cypriotes did their best avert the tragic fate of their compatriotes from Smyrna or Constantinople and fought the Turk like hell ? Or how would you have behaved under these circumstances , if I may ask ?

"and yet Turkish intervention was not well done."

Indeed, I read some Turkish general complaining about not occupying the whole island and repeating the Kemalist exploit of Smyrna in 1974.

The Moslem Turk always finds a decorous pretext for his genocides. He loves being the accuser, the judge and the executioner in one person. He will expel 180 000 people with napalm and justify it with the necessity to defend a few Turks whom his invincible Grey Wolves have failed to protect. You can't argue rationally with a Moslem Turk .
