Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza

Submitted by Vijay (United Kingdom), Jul 21, 2010 at 11:56

There are large diferences between the two situations. Turkey invaded the soverign country of Cyprus and annexed a sizable portion of it. The Greeks under it's occupation were ethnically cleansed. Turkey has also installed a puppet government

The international status of Gaza is not as clearcut as Northern Cyprus. Was Gaza part of a country other than Israel for example Egypt? In that case why don't the Egyptians want Gaza? Since there was and is no soveriegn country called Palestine, Gaza cannot be a parellel to Northern Cyprus.

Turkish army has no business to be in Northern Cyprus. They can leave the fate of NC to the government of Northern Cyyprus which has no international recognition apart from Turkey, it's patron
