Firstly, 99.8% of the Turkish polulation are NOT muslims.Yes, Islam is the predominant religion in Turkey. We are also talking about 21 million Alewites in the country most of whom never claim to be muslims. In fact, it is not prohibited for the Alwites to drink alcohol, according to their religion and beleifs.Furthermore, Turkey has become an extremely a cosmopolitan society in the past 30 years or so.There are almost 2 million people living in Turkey who were not born in the country. There are tens of thousands of westeners who chose to live in Turkey, namely making the country their second homeland! Mostly, on the seacosts, one can see many Europeans enjoying their retirements. They bought their houses and even publish their own local newspapers on a weekly basis.I am NOT exempting some Israelis and Jewish origin Europeans and Americans either! They talk about the 'So called Armenian Genocide' and yet 150,000 Armenians have left their country and chose to emmigrate to Turkey in the past 15 years or so, some of whom if not the most, are living, working and doing their businesses illegally (without work permission that is) and yet, on purpose, the Turkish Governements have always turned a blind eye on this! I also know that Israelis have bought some lands in the SouthEastern part of the country where the GAP project has nearly been completed. These are some of the 'very few' isolated examples I can give. The above post is written from a very subjective viewpoint.I couldn't find any sincerety in it.As such,in that portrays Turkey as an uncivilised country.

Who can show me a country in which a 'non-native' has not been harrassed? Fortunately, those incidents are very rare in most civilised countries and I can categorically state that Turkey would be among those and perhaps the safest one for the foreigners and non-muslims.

I personally met dozens of mainstream Australians, New Zealanders and Europeans who already are planning to retire in Turkey let alone tens of thousands of Europeans and American who already have done so.In such light, I can easily assert that the premise of arguments raised by Yasemin is fundmentally flawed and baseless as she depicted the country to be an uncivilised one!

In early 1990's when the USA President Reagan had visited Moscow, Gorbachov had mentoined to him on his advent at the airport a famous Russian Proverb which was" IT IS BETTER TO SEE ONCE, INSTEAD OF HEARING THOUSAND TIMES".

Accordingly, I would suggest the readers to see first (If they want to, of course) before jumping the guns! And bear in mind that any Israelis I met had been in Turkey on numerous ocassions and they appeared to have enjoyed their holidays while there. The jewish people were never forced to leave Turkey. They simply decided to emmigrate to Israel just like the other jews from the different countries, mostly from Europe and USA.Their decisions were maninly based on their beleifs and religion.

Here I am not saying that Turkey is an angel! But a few years ago I was reading in an Israeli newpaper published in English, stating that due to anti-semitism the number of French jews emmigrating to Israel had been tripled on that year.(I think it was in 2006?) Ironically, you only hear the complaints of the Turkish jews..As if they are the only jews on this planet who are living so so unhappily! Strange, isn't it?
