I know how hard it's for a Turk to suddenly learn about "genocides against the Christians" perpetrated by the "great" Turkish race. All books and articles on that have been banned . No public Turkish library has them. Few suspect their existence, all unanimously denounce them without reading. What is more important, 3 years of imprisonment are foreseen by Article 313 of the Turkish Penal Code for anyone using the phrase in public. Those who dare do that can fear a Turkish patriot's knife or bullet stopping the 'blasphemer ' before a Turkish thought policeman does it. What the Turk is taught is that it's was ALWAYS the Turk who was the victim of genocides . "In fact" it is the Christians that committed genocides but the Turks thwarted them at the very last moment ...
So from a huge amount of literature on the subject, ignored and banned in Turkey, let's quote a contemporary British document : "Memorandum by George W. Rendel of the Foreign Office , 20.09.1922" ,Nr E 3148/19/44 . Note that it was written before the massacres in Smyrna and only its first part is displayed below.
From it we learn i.al. :
> On the 11th November (1919) , Admiral de Robeck reported as follows:–
". . . . The relief officers . . . . find themselves met with obstructions and hostility . . . . The most flagrant cases of injustice to Christians have to be left unredressed . . . . the Christians are now bewildered and terrified . . . . Every district has its band of brigands now posing as patriots, and even in the vicinity of Constantinople robbery under arms is of daily occurrence, the principal victims being naturally the unprotected Christian villages. Behind all these elements of disorder stands Mustapha Kemal. . . [...]
"At the foot of the mountains east of Isnik (Nicaea) , about 300 yards outside the city wall, is a large cave. In this the burnt and mangled bodies had been thrown, a few old bodies lay about outside, though it was difficult to judge very accurately owing to the state of decomposition. I should say there were at least 100 dead at this spot alone.
All the bodies I saw had been mutilated, apparently they had first had their hands and feet cut off, after that they were either burnt alive in the cave or had their throats cut. I clearly recognised the bodies of women and children among them–apart from the mutilated remains, odd bones which lay about proved conclusively that the bodies had been cut up."(...) A.D. has been thoroughly smashed up, only the walls remaining. The images, carvings, &c., were all broken up, and the church literature taken outside and burnt in a pile. "
"The ancient Greek church at Isnik (Nicaea), which dates from 332
There are many more horrifying documents -including those written by Turkey's German and Soviet friends - on atrocities committed by the Turks against the Christians but I wouldn't like to overburden the post.
Coming back to you question : " What do you mean by genocide against the Christians ?" may I ask what your point is in asking it ? It really sounds as if someone said "What do you mean by the holocaust? What holocaust ... ? ! " , doesn't it?
