Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]
in response to reader comment: On shariat

Submitted by Hema (Qatar), Aug 31, 2006 at 04:21

hi, R freedom, since a month i've been tryning to understand Islam and its core values. but i am not able to convince myself that HOLY QURAN IS FROM THE GOD. i always perceive god as a loving guide who is like a parent/friend/teacher. and for my understanding LOVE can create wonders which cannot be achieved by religious education. why most of the people who practice islam support of sharia? and they dont seems to protest its brutal attributes? why Holy Quran always says 'fear allah' most of the time? why should be fear of allah?

i grew up with lot of muslim friends around me and at present working in an islamic country. all my friends see life not through their eyes but through holy quran. fine no problem. but why they dont seems to use their own god gifted brains and minds. for all the questions i ask to them they answer 'this is islamic' or 'this is written in quran' .... are they scared? why dont they say 'this is what my mind thinks' or 'this is what accaording to me'. all my friends(men and women) are highly educated and still they dont know what they want or what their mind thinks. THEIR LIVES ARE GUIDED NOT BY THEIR OWN WILL BUT THE WILL OF HOLY QURAN. and i really pity them for not using their 'INNER SELF' to understand the life and thereafter.
