Irrationality and Islam

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Part of the root of muslim anger and other religious anger is the conflict between belief and experience. If Islam is the chosen religion, why is there such poverty and powerlessness in Islamic countries? If god wants muslims to have many children, why does overpopulation cause poverty, environmental degradation and political instablity? If muslims are the people god favors, why are non muslims doing so much better? If muslims in the Sudan kill and enslave thousands of other Muslims there is no Muslim outcry. If Israelis kill 4 Arabs then it is huge because the infidel is so powerful. Why is the quality of life so poor in the Muslim world? Cause and effect.

What is making countries successful is innovation, critical thinking, transparency in government and humanism. Women are 50% of the population. If you don't educate and treat women as equal you lose 50% of your resources. Islam treats women as second class citizens and blames the reactions of men on them. Instead of teaching that abusing women is wrong, they justify it . It teaches not to think but to obey. Instead of realizing that this system of thought and reaction brings unwanted results (large, empoverished, unemployed populations) they blame it on not believing hard enough.

The conflict stems from the obvious failings of religion in the secular parts of society. Humanist free countries like the EU and US are a painful reminder that educating the poplulace and the belief that ALL people are created equal yield positive results. How could the West be so powerful if Islam is the one true religion? Since learning from experience how to improve society would be against the contract, they fell they must destroy as evil any evidence that contradicts the contract.
