Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Zain Shariq (Turkey), Apr 26, 2005 at 11:15

i find such comments to be very frustrating, as they display a major misunderstanding, and general ignorance to the way the world works. Most of the people who comment, muslims and non-muslims alike, are not well read, and do not know the reality of what is happening in the world around them, much less about their own religion.

Islam is in the state that it is today primarily because the muslims themselves fail to understand the universality of the religious themes expressed within it, and adhere to it solely in a traditionalist sense. also, a vast number adhere to arabism in the guise of islam, which has become so entrenched that it is difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.

but such ignorance about ones religion isnt comon to the muslims, but is found in all religions today. people are forced to concentrate on making money, and leave the spiritual side to traditionalist scholars. as such very few people actually seek to find the truth for themselves, and are satisfied with the convenient lies that they are fed.

for example how many christians really know about the the convention of nicea? how many muslims have researched the methodology of hadith for themselves? the answer of course is so few, that they might as well not exist.

the universal themes of any religion are things that people have discover for themselves personally and through personal effort. it is not recommended to devour whatever is placed before as the truth without understanding what it says, or scrutinizing it with your own god given faculties. is it not the bible that says judge not lest you be judged? every nation can look to its own history for genocide. and please before attackong another nation please read more than just state sponsored material about your own.
